Madhumalati, Rangoon creeper

Madhumalati, Rangoon creeper

Rangoon creeper/ Burma creeper is the most common vine in India. Botanical name - Combretum indicum, have many names like Madhumalati in sanskrit, Manipuri - Parijat, Bengali-Madhumanjari, Tamil-Iragun Malli  etc.

Best idea to plant this creeper is the main entrance gate of a house. It will grow with help of compound wall, pillar and looks stunning. Though it has some medicinal use I did not aware and brought this creeper due to my curiosity only. I planted it out side near to gate and thought that creeper will go first floor and when flowers hangs down, my house will get a different and better look. But it’s taken more time to grownup because my outside place was overcrowded. Two years of long waiting, now it’s flowering. Hey! Did you notice ever? The whole bunch of buds opens white then change to pink, red and finally maroon.

Once one of my friend asked me, this white flowers turning to different colors or different colors are there? Certainly I said no it’s not all white, different colors are there. But I was continue thinking whether I given her a right information?  So I keep watching my flowers and noticed the real truth. Ohh my goodness I rectified after that.
